CIDH Piles

CIDH Piles

Blue Iron specializes in cast-in-drilled-hole (CIDH) piles, also known as drilled piles or caissons. CIDH piles utilize a rotary boring technique that allows for piles of a larger diameter than are otherwise possible. CIDH piles is particularly useful for construction in areas with particularly hard soil or rock that unstable due to ground movement. CIDH piles are built by drilling a shaft, installing an I-beam or steel reinforcing cage, and then filling the shaft with concrete.

What are CIDH Piles Used For?

CIDH piles are typically used for construction in areas with unstable sediments that make it dangerous to use pile-driving equipment that could set off a landslide or other seismic events. The CIDH technique produces an extremely strong cement pile that is bound to the soil around it, reinforced with steel.

The major benefits of utilizing CIDH piles include but not limited to:

  • CIDH piles offer the ability to perform construction in unstable soils that make it dangerous to use pile-driving equipment.
  • CIDH techniques can be utilized in areas with limited access or headroom due to natural and man-made obstructions, such as under or near power lines or trees, or inside existing buildings.
  • CIDH piles can support extremely heavy, concentrated loads.
  • CIDH piles are a versatile and economic option suitable even for smaller projects with a limited budget.
  • CIDH piling can b placed in both dry and wet conditions.
